Operatives of the Ahmedabad police’s Cyber Crime Division arrested Hitendra Pithadiya, an Indian Congress leader on Tuesday allegedly for posting morphed naked images of a woman with the Ayodhya priest on social media.

Hitendra Pithadiya was arrested after the images he shared went viral on several social media platforms.

Confirming the arrest, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Cyber Crime, Ajit Rajian, told reporters that Hitendra Pithadiya has been held for posting the deepfake images of the woman under the charges of 469 (forgery) and 509 (intending to insult the modesty of a woman).

The case has been registered against Pithadiya under Section 469 (forgery for the purpose of harming reputation), Section 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), and the IT Act of the IPC.

The 44-year-old politician and national coordinator of the Scheduled Caste Dept. of the Indian National Congress became the first elected delegate from the Vejalpur Assembly youth congress in 2009.

He contested for the post of general secretary of the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha Youth Congress and won it.
