Obaseki sympathizes with families of victims of Delta tanker explosion

Godwin Obaseki, Governor of Edo State, has expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the petrol tanker explosion at Koko Junction in Delta State.
The governor issued a statement late Sunday night expressing his condolences for the unfortunate tragedy, emphasizing that the loss of life was regrettable.
Obaseki said, “We are saddened by the news of the petrol tanker explosion in Koko Junction, Delta State.
“We commiserate with the government and people of Delta State over the tragic incident. We sympathize with the families of the victims.”
Obaseki urged “Nigerians to desist from attempting to scoop petrol whenever there is an accident involving tankers. It is pertinent to consider safety first and report to appropriate authorities in such instances.”
Chronicle NG reports that five people died with properties comprising eight buses, two tankers, five trailers, two cars, and one motorcycle burned in an early Sunday blaze.
The accident occurred on Sunday when a tanker carrying PMS was heading towards Benin along the Warri-Benin Road when it crashed, spilling its contents into a nearby marsh.
According to the Delta State Police command’s spokesman, Bright Edafe, the spill drew teenagers who began scooping the petroleum into jerry cans and other containers. While they were at it, an explosion happened, and a fire enveloped the area, according to him.
