LASTMA rescues three as loaded tanker rams into six vehicles

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) revealed today that a fully loaded tanker rammed with six vehicles while travelling over Gbagada bridge inward Ifako along the Oworonsoki Expressway in Lagos.

The accident caused extremely heavy traffic for drivers travelling from the third mainland bridge toward Ifako by the Oworonsoki Expressway.

Preliminary investigations into the incident revealed that the driver of the fully laden tanker lost control due to brake failure and collided into 6 other vehicles while descending the Gbagada bridge toward Ifako on the freeway (3 commercial vehicles, 3 private cars, and 1 Lastma cycle), Adebayo Taofiq, LASTMA’s director of public affairs and enlightenment said in a statement.

Casualties who were were seriously hurt and were brought to Gbagada General Hospital for medical care by a LASTMA trooper who was also injured in the tragedy.

Adebayo further revealed that while the accident happened about 6:10pm thursday, police officers from Alonge Police Station in Oworonsoki were also on the site..

However, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, the general manager of LASTMA, urged the organization that controls the activities of tanker operators to always remind their drivers to always travel under the posted speed limit whenever they are on public highways.
